Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style Half Loaf Recalled Due to Undeclared Nuts

Nut allergies are serious business. A person who has a nut allergy and consumes nuts can suffer serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis or even death.
Because of this, manufacturers need to be quick when informing consumers of possible nut contamination. This recently happened with certain bakery products.
On July 10, Hartford Bakery, Inc. announced a voluntary recall of six specific lots of its Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf as a precautionary measure, citing the potential presence of undeclared hazelnuts.
The recalled products were sold in 12-ounce plastic bags at Kroger and Walmart stores across multiple states, including Tennessee. Each bag is labeled with UPC code 24126018152, located on the bottom of the packaging. Consumers can identify the affected loaves by the following lot codes printed on the front panel of the bag: T10 174010206, T10 174010306, T10 174010406, T10 174020206, T10 174020306, and T10 174020406. All recalled products have a best-by date of July 13, 2025.
Customers who purchased any of these items are strongly urged not to consume them and to return the product to the store for a full refund. This recall follows a July 8 advisory from Kroger, warning customers not to eat the 12-ounce loaf marked with product code 24126-01815 and the same July 13, 2025, best-by date due to similar concerns. That advisory applied to Tennessee and 15 other states.
Hartford Bakery emphasized in their recall notice:
“The product may contain hazelnuts and, if eaten, could result in severe allergic reactions in people sensitive to tree nuts. Please return the product to this store for a full refund.”
Dangers of Undeclared Nuts
Undeclared nuts in food pose a serious health risk, particularly for those with nut allergies. Even trace amounts of tree nuts, such as hazelnuts, can trigger life-threatening allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. These reactions can occur within minutes of ingestion and may include symptoms such as swelling, difficulty breathing, hives, vomiting, or anaphylaxis, which is a severe, potentially fatal condition that requires immediate medical attention.
When allergens are not clearly listed on product labels, consumers are unable to make informed decisions, increasing the risk of accidental exposure. This is why accurate food labeling is not only a regulatory requirement but also a public safety issue. Manufacturers must ensure that cross-contamination is prevented during production and that all allergens are correctly disclosed on packaging. Failure to do so can lead to costly recalls, legal consequences, and serious health risks.
