Motorcycle, Semi Trucks Involved in Fatal Crash in Nashville
Motorcycle accidents can be dangerous and even fatal, especially when much larger vehicles like semi trucks are involved.
Sadly, a young man was involved in such a crash in Nashville. He was killed in the accident, which occurred on the evening of July 29 on Interstate 65 near mile marker 90.2.
The 19-year-old motorcyclist from Tullahoma was traveling on Interstate 65 South near Dickerson Pike when he attempted to pass between two semi trailer trucks traveling in adjacent lanes. While doing so, the motorcycle hit the rear of one of the trailers. The man was speeding at the time.
The motorcyclist was taken to Skyline Medical Center, where he later died. Both truck drivers remained at the accident scene following the crash. It is unknown if either was injured. Neither truck driver showed any signs of impairment.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation reported that all southbound lanes and shoulders were closed following the crash. Traffic was diverted at Exit 90B to allow motorists to bypass the scene before reentering I-65 South.The interstate remained closed for several hours as authorities investigated the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
Dangers of Motorcycles Passing Between Semi Trucks

- Lack of escape routes: Unlike passing a single vehicle, riding between two semis leaves few options to avoid debris, sudden braking, or an unexpected obstacle.
- Driver blind spots during merging: If the trucks are preparing to merge, enter an interchange, or navigate a curve, they may move closer together without realizing a motorcycle is between them.
