Kobayashi Recalls Hand Warmers Due to Fire and Burn Risk

HandWarmer

Kobayashi is recalling approximately 77,000 HotHands rechargeable hand warmers because the lithium-ion batteries and electrical components can overheat and catch fire, creating a risk of serious burns and other injuries, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The recall was announced October 1, 2026, and carries CPSC recall number 27-011. It involves white and orange HotHands rechargeable hand warmers sold in two-packs. The units can be magnetically connected and come with a charging cable. Each warmer contains a built-in lithium ion battery and features adjustable heat settings, LED indicator lights and a silicone lanyard.

Consumers can identify the recalled products by looking for model number H163650 and a four-digit batch number printed on the underside of the hand warmer. The white HotHands logo appears on the top of the warmer and on its packaging. The recall applies only to the electric rechargeable hand warmers with the white HotHands logo.

The CPSC said the products can overheat and ignite because of problems involving the lithium-ion battery and electrical components. No injuries or incidents had been reported at the time of the recall.

The recalled hand warmers were sold at various retailers across the United States, including Bass Pro Shops, Meijer, Target and The Home Depot, as well as online retailers such as Amazon. They were available nationwide from July 2025 through August 2026 for approximately $30 to $40.

Consumers who have a recalled hand warmer should stop using it immediately and contact Kobayashi for a full refund. Customers must visit the company’s recall website and follow the instructions to obtain a claim number. They will then be instructed to mark the product with the word “Recalled” and the claim number in permanent marker and submit a photograph showing the markings, model number and batch number.

Because the products contain lithium ion batteries, consumers should not place them in household trash, curbside recycling bins, or retail battery recycling boxes. The CPSC recommends contacting a local household hazardous waste collection center before disposal.

What If a Recalled Hand Warmer Causes a Burn Injury?

Anyone who suffers a burn from a defective consumer product may need medical treatment. Serious burns can result in permanent scarring, nerve damage, and infection.

Consumers who are injured by a recalled product should preserve the product, packaging, purchase records, and other documentation when possible. Photographs of the injury and the product may also help document what happened.

Depending on the circumstances, an injured consumer may have legal options for seeking compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other damages.

Fires are nothing to mess around with. A fire caused by a defective product can cause burns as well as damage to property. Fire also creates smoke, which can cause breathing difficulties.
