Multiple People Injured in Tennessee Workplace Assault

WC_20

The workplace can be a dangerous place at times. Workers are prone to slips and falls, vehicle accidents, crush injuries, and electrical accidents. People do not always realize that they may also be assaulted by co-workers.

A disturbance recently occurred at Fabco, a Automotive Manufacturing facility located in Springfield, with several people injured by a worker’s attack. The attack happened on the evening of December 6.

Police officers arrived at Fabco to find several employees restraining an 18-year-old man on the ground. The man appeared to be intoxicated and incoherent.

The incident started when the man allegedly struck an employee in the face with a mop handle. The man then used a heavy hand magnet to hit another worker in the head.

An employee stepped forward to intervene and was struck in the left ear with the hand magnet, causing bleeding. Another worker was aggressively approached by the man, who hit the worker in the face with the metal hand magnet and caused a raised bruise on the left side of his face.

The suspect, who was holding a map, allegedly broke the mop handle and attempted to stab another worker with the broken end. That worker ended up with a bloody nose and a bruise on the right cheek.

Another worked tried to intervene and suffered cuts to the hand, knee, and forearm, along with bruising to the right wrist, after the suspect allegedly struck him with the metal hand magnet. Multiple employees also stated that the man tried to stab them with the broken mop handle.

Supervisors and employees were able to wrestle the man to the ground and hold him there until police arrived. Police recovered a mop with a broken handle, a hand magnet, and dash/body camera video as evidence. Additional video footage from the workplace will be available for review.

Because the suspect was intoxicated, the Robertson County Jail initially refused booking until he received medical clearance. He was taken to TriStar NCMC for a medical evaluation before he was taken to the jail for booking on aggravated assault.

The man was charged with five counts of aggravated assault. He was booked into the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield but later released under a $75,000 bond.

All the victims in the assault were evaluated by EMS at the scene. None received further medical attention. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Robertson County General Sessions Court on February 9.
