2 Injured in Industrial Accident in Bradley County

Going to work is not always safe. Worksites can be dangerous due to various factors. In extreme cases, explosions can occur, causing burns and other serious injuries to workers.
This was recently the case in Tennessee. Two workers were injured when an explosion occurred at a factory in Bradley County. The incident happened on the morning of May 13 at Amaero Advanced Materials & Manufacturing on Innovation Drive in Georgetown.
Cleveland Police Department officers responded to a report of an explosion at the plant. Two workers were taken to local hospitals with severe burns. One was airlifted.
The Chattanooga Fire Department handled one of the patients. It was initially believed that the person had come in contact with titanium dust. Chattanooga firefighters set up decontamination and entered the contained area outside of the ER. They assessed the patient and found that they had sustained burns from a lithium battery explosion. Firefighters ensured there was no hazardous material on the patient. The patient was then turned over to Erlanger officials for further treatment.
The other patient was taken to a hospital in Atlanta. The condition of the workers is currently unknown. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the workplace accident.
While there is no danger to the public, people were asked to avoid the area that afternoon.
Amaero is an Australia-based company that has more than 100 workers in Bradley County.
What to Know About Workplace Explosions
Workplace explosions are serious industrial accidents that can cause catastrophic injuries, fatalities, and extensive property damage. They typically occur when flammable gases, dust, chemicals, or pressurized systems ignite due to heat, sparks, or equipment failure.
Common causes of workplace explosions include:
- Gas leaks (propane, natural gas, methane, or industrial gases)
- Chemical reactions or improper storage of hazardous materials
- Dust explosions in grain elevators, factories, or woodworking facilities
- Boiler or pressure vessel failures
- Electrical faults or equipment sparks in flammable environments
- Welding or cutting near combustible materials
- Poor ventilation in enclosed work areas
High-risk industries include:
- Oil and gas facilities and refineries
- Manufacturing plants and factories
- Construction sites
- Chemical processing plants
- Mining operations
- Agricultural storage facilities
- Warehousing and logistics centers handling flammable materials
Explosions in the workplace often result in:
- Severe burns and blast injuries
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Hearing loss from pressure waves
- Broken bones and crush injuries
- Smoke inhalation and respiratory damage
- Secondary injuries from fires or collapsing structures
Workplace explosions are often investigated by agencies such as OSHA. Employers may be held responsible if safety standards were not followed, including inadequate training, faulty equipment maintenance, or failure to follow hazardous material protocols.
